The Gucci Challenge, Part 1

Twice a year my school, Apparel Arts, sponsors a fashion challenge. This fall, they have challenged students to create a street style look inspired by Gucci’s fall 2017 ready to wear line.

Now, at first I wasn’t a fan of this particular mash-up of fashion elements. The colors are bright, complex, and at times nearing on gaudy. But, after doing some research as part of my fashion illustration class, I came to a better understanding of the choices that were made. I also took that opportunity to use the line as inspiration for my final fashion illustration project, including the inspiration in my mood board and illustrating four of the garments in the line. We were tasked to use the same model, our muse, for each garment. I chose Emma Watson, because I admire her immensely.

In doing so, I found a few garments I admired, and thus am basing my design for the challenge on two of them:

And so, the challenge begins!
