I’m ecstatic to announce that I will be volunteering as a fashion advisor with the Girls Inc. (of the Island City) Ethical Fashion program. The program is for teenage girls who want to learn more about controversial issues surrounding the fashion industry, such as the treatment of factory workers, the impact on the environment, and ways they can make a difference—including entrepreneurship and how to be a successful, ethical business woman! The girl have the option to compete in the Ethical Fashion show this spring as a designer or model.
I’ll be helping teach the girls patterning, fitting, sewing techniques, beading and more. It’s really exciting to see these bright young women take an interest in sustainable and ethical fashion, and I am thrilled that I can be a part of their journey.
