Yesterday I spent the day hanging out with an amazing team of people from Fibershed and Apparel Arts for the Re:Fashion workshop in Oakland, CA. Attendees learned mending, embroidery and eco-printing techniques to turn lifeless old, and sometimes beloved, garments into new ones.
I took the opportunity to learn a bit of Boro style Sashiko mending, using discarded pockets from old blue jeans. I’m thinking I’ll turn them into cool little coin purses.
But by far, the most inspirational station was the eco-printing. It was run by Monica Medeiros, a Vallejo based printer and fiber artist. Below are some shots of the gorgeous prints created using flowers and bugs. I am really excited to try more of this!
